Cox’s Bazar is located at a distance of 152km south of Chittagong . It has a total area of 2260qskm. British captain Hiram Cox in 1799 defeated the Burmese king in a battle and set up a bazar (market) here which was named “Cox’s Bazar” after him.Cox’s Bazar is called the Tourist Capital of Bangladesh. Having the world’s longest unbroken sandy sea beach (120 km) sloping gently down to the blue water of the Bay of Bengal.
It’s golden sands, towering cliffs, surfing waves, rare conch shells, colorful pagodas and Buddhist temples against the picturesque background of a chain of forested hills with rich wildlife made this beach as one of the most attractive tourist spot in the world.

Ancient name of Cox’s Bazar was Bakolia. Mid Seventeenth’s name was PENGWA. The Rakhaine word Pengwa means yellow flower. Burmese King Monwaing attacked Cox’s Bazar in 1784. He killed the Arakanese King Thamada and took controle of Arakanese Kingdom . After taking control of Arakan, he continued the persecution of the Rakhaine community. As a result, majority of the Arakanese left the area to take shelter in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and Patuakhali. The Government of the East India Company appointed Captain Hiram Cox as superintendent and sends him to rehabilitate the Arakanese refugees. One arrival there in 1799, he defeated the Burmese king in a battle and rehabilitated the Arakanese refugees. After the war, he set up a Bazar (market) in that place which was named Cox’s Bazar after him.
The world longest 125 km. unbroken sea beach in sandy with a gentle sloping sown to the blue water of Bay of Bangal against the picturesque background of chain of hills covered with deep green forests. It is about 150 km south from Chittagong and about 414 lm southeast of Dhaka city. Well connected by Air and Bus. It is very good place of sea bathing. A large variety of fish including seafood caught here. In Cox’s Bazar have many colorful Pagodas, Buddhist Temples , Dry fish center etc. The beauty of sun setting on the rolling sea wave and moonlit night is simply captivating. Ramu : About 10 km north of Cox’s Bazar on the main road to Chittagong , is a Buddhist village and boasts a number of temples images of Gautam Buddha in Gold, Bronze and other materials inlaid with precious / valuable stone.
Himchhari : About 5 km south of Cox’s Bazar along the sea beach. The broken hills, Waterfalls and Christmas tree are main attractions here. A nice place for sightseeing and film shooting.
Sonadia Island : It is a crescent shaped island about 7 km North west of Cox’s Bazar. The area of Island is about 9.5 Sq. Km. Every winter season 1000 of fisherman came here and make large hauls. The Island is a center of dry fish industry. Another attraction is the Island of migrate birds game.
Maheshkhali : The Island of the cost of Cox’s Bazar in the mouth of river Bashkhali has an area of 268 Sq. Km. There is famous Hindu temple The Adinath temple on the top of hill which became a place of pilgrimage during the month of Falgun (March). The cost of Island on the West and North cover by mangrove forest. Maximum people of the island are fisherman. Also product salt here by natural way.
Inani Beach : Lovesome patches perched between the sea and the hill behind, some 30km.down south along the sea front from Cox’s Bazar. Inani is a quiet tourist hideout set out in the exuberance of nature.
